GI Associates & Endoscopy Center seeks an experienced Test Result/Refill Nurse (LPN) to join its team.


SUMMARY: Works collaboratively with the providers within the team setting to facilitate quality care for the patients. Assists with scheduling procedures; contacts providers and patients; following standing orders, approves and calls in prescriptions; maintains patient records. Reports directly to the Clinic Manager/Chief Operating Officer.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXAMPLES OF WORK: This list of tasks may be changed or other tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Patient Care

Schedules tests, treatments, diagnostic procedures and referrals of triaged patients.

Returns patient calls to assist with refills, charges, concerns, etc.

Calls in new prescriptions and approves refills following standing orders.

Instructs patients and/or family with regard to medications.

Notifies Clinical Assistants of tests ordered/scheduled for "check and balance".

Performs UBIT testing, develops hemocult cards, and reports results to ordering physician.


Record Keeping and Documentation

Enters data and maintains patient files, records and other information in EMR.

Checks that lab reports, x-rays, other information are in the patient records and ready for provider review.


Professional Development and Credentials

Participates in professional development and maintains professional licensure and affiliations.

Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.


Special Projects

Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested by supervisor or CEO.

Participates in studies, research projects, or company projects as directed.


Incumbent performs other job-related tasks as assigned and required; any duties/tasks included in the employee's performance evaluation are essential to that employee's position within the job classification.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any request to substitute related education or experience for minimum qualifications, or for a reasonable accommodation, must be addressed to the Human Resource Manager in writing.


Education and/or Experience:

Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing and experience in areas related to the above-described examples (med/surg/GI/medical office).


Computer Skills: Basic computer skills sufficient to enter and retrieve data from an Electronic Medical Records system; Knowledge of ICD9, CPT, AND HCPCS coding and managed care contracts is desirable. Skill in using other medical office equipment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Licensed as an LPN in the State of Mississippi; current CPR (BLS/ACLS) certification.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, sharps, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.
